What's next for social prescribing?
Over the last year, we’ve been working hard on spreading the good word of social prescribing, it’s benefits, overcoming the challenges that come with it and everything involved in making social prescribing a reality.
Part of our quest this year involved growing the team to support the design and delivery of even more digital social prescription programmes and striving towards our key vision, which is ‘halting all health equalities’. It also involved getting on the ground and listening to what front line staff want and need from our platform.
And here's how our customers are succeeding, thanks to working with Elemental
Social Prescribing Hubs have gone digital and are powered by Elemental
healthcare establishments are using our platform, including GP surgeries, health centres and hospitals
GPs are now digital social prescribing GPs with referrals also being made by nurses, OTs, physios, the fire service & pharmacists
venues hosting social prescribing interventions are now connected via Elemental e.g. community centres, church halls, leisure centres
interventions receiving referrals to armchair aerobics, cooking classes, community choirs, and debt management services

Expanding our portfolio of products and services
You told us that social prescribing was for everyone but not everyone necessarily needed a social prescribing link worker
-We released Self Refer, the people-powered self-referral tool that’s available any time, on any device, anywhere
-We launched our partnership and consultancy services and also learned a lot about community wellness over the past 15 years so that you can tap into that knowledge and expertise
Enhancing our software
GPs, health and social care professionals, housing officers, commissioners and social prescribing link workers told us what was important to them and so we made enhancements to our existing software
–To enable you to take the steps required towards making your social prescribing programme more digitally mature, we developed the Digital Maturity Index for Social Prescribing – a tool which allows you to self assess your programme and get lots of tips on how to make your social prescribing programme even better
-We’ve been working hard on Elemental Mobile, an extension of Elemental Core, designed for facilitators to make, manage and monitor referrals offline without the need for WIFI or an internet connection – due to be released early 2019!
-Our reporting functionality was developed to meet your reporting needs to show not only the impact of social prescribing on patients but also the impact on the community and the health and social care system
Streamlining our processes
We streamlined internal and external processes around the Elemental suite of products and project implementation so that you can deliver even better social prescribing programmes
-Through implementing agile and scrum development methods, we’re now able to offer fast deployment, which means we can have your project up and running within 8 weeks
Expanding our network to enhance social prescribing
We expanded our network of partners and advisors so that we can offer a more complete service to our customers because every project is different
-We announced a first of its kind partnership with EMIS Health that offers GPs and others using EMIS Web the opportunity to play a more significant role in social prescribing by making, managing and viewing social prescription referrals. You told us to keep it simple so we did! Just 4 clicks to make a referral to one of 73 social prescribing hubs across the UK!
-We have 4 new and exciting partnerships being announced early in 2019 that will see social prescribing been taken to a whole new level – teaser alert! Await news on the economic cost benefit analysis of social prescribing, an announcement regarding other clinical systems connecting with Elemental and some fantastic new measurement tools available from within our platform
Growing our team
We’ve grown our amazing team to help you get your projects up and running so that you could make your social prescription projects even better!
-We’ve expanded the team with the addition of new talent across software development, projects, marketing and finance, with the addition of a former link worker in our project management team, an additional developer to lead on our app, Elemental Mobile, a digital health manager who specialises in mental health and a marketing and communications expert to help us build the case for social prescribing
Scaling our customer base
-We’ve grown our customer base by 70%
-We’ve welcomed even more customers from health, housing, VCSE and local government
-We saw many more organisations choose Elemental to drive forward social prescribing in the West Midlands and Greater London with both the Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority, Andy Street and The Mayor of London, Sadik Khan, selecting Elemental as their preferred partners to help shape the vision for social prescribing in both regions
-We’ve been following up with our customers to hear about their success stories and case studies so that you can keep up to date with their progress. Hear more from Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care Foundation Trust, Maassarani Group Practice, West Lancashire CCG and others over on our blog
Committing to compliance
-We’re Cyber Essentials accredited which demonstrates our level of compliance with the requirements for cyber security
-We’re an EMIS Health Accredited partner which means we have undergone the rigiours Information Governance accreditation process
Making procurement easier
– We are now on G Cloud 10 which means not only will public sector organisations be able to procure Elemental’s social prescribing platform with ease within the framework, but the G-Cloud approved accreditation also ensures that terms and services are included upfront, making implementation and deployment much quicker for the customer
Join our social prescribing mission
Back in January, we predicted that 2018 was set to be the biggest year yet for social prescribing. Now 12 months on, we’ve seen social prescribing news hitting the headlines, the launch of the ‘Prevention is better than cure‘ strategy, Theresa May’s promising pledge to tackle loneliness and it’s been a mammoth year for Elemental with huge announcements and awards along the way. We can only imagine what progress will be made next year and hope that you’ll continue to join us on our mission!
