The world's first social prescribing unconference
Andy Burnham Confirmed as Keynote Speaker at Social Prescribing UnCo
We’re delighted to reveal that Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham has been confirmed as our morning Keynote Speaker at UnCo, the world’s first social prescribing unconference, in Manchester next week.
Andy serves Greater Manchester’s city region as the first ever elected Mayor and has done since 2017. He served as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport from 2008 to 2009 and Secretary of State for Health from 2009 to 2010. Andy also served as a Member of Parliament for Leigh in Greater Manchester from 2001 to 2017.
Andy will take to the stage of our highly anticipated social prescribing unconference on October 16th, Kings House, Manchester.
“I want to see social prescribing as a first port of call, not a fringe add-on. And the NHS’s first thought should often be to refer people for exercise, counselling, talking therapy, and debt advice. Debt, poverty, housing, relationships and work are often the root causes of poor health in Greater Manchester. We must get to root causes more successfully and find solutions.” Source: Andy Burnham, Provider Voices, nhsproviders.org

The agenda for this unconference has been determined by those attending creating a vibrant atmosphere that will excite and energise everyone involved by incorporating a range of different sessions which will include problem-solving, design thinking, discussions and debates as well as offering registrants the chance to add their own topics of interest to the agenda.
Elemental Co-founder and Co CEO Jennifer Neff said “We are delighted that Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, will be joining us as keynote speaker at Social Prescribing Unco. Andy is an enthusiastic supporter and champion of social prescribing, which has increased significantly in the last couple of years across all parts of Greater Manchester, with nearly six thousand people benefiting across the city region in the first three months of this year alone. Social prescribing and asset-based approaches, that support both community development as well as people’s broader health and wellbeing, are right at the heart of Andy’s vision for a place-based and unified public service for Greater Manchester. We are really looking forward to hearing more!”
