28,000 people to avail of digital social prescriptions across the North of Ireland

The Bogside & Brandywell Health Forum is the first of 15 Healthy Living Centres trained on Elemental Software’s social prescribing platform in a project that will see 28,000 people engaged in the largest social prescription programme in Northern Ireland.

The 2 year project, funded by the Public Health Agency, will transform the way communities engage in physical activity, diet and nutrition and mental health support using innovative technology developed by Derry and Dubai based Tech for Good company, Elemental Software.

Speaking at the event, Seamus Ward, Bogside and Brandywell HLC Manager, said “The training we are engaging in today will enable BBHF and Healthy Living Centres to be more precise in ensuring that the most at risk are engaged and activated in improving their health outcomes. We see digital playing a massive part in this and are fully committed to adapting the culture and ecosystem within HLCs to embrace digital technology to scale and better connect and measure the work we are already doing.”

Tony Doherty, HLC Alliance’s Regional Coordinator, has been an advocate of social prescribing for some time now and wanted to take community health to the next level and prove value for money. He said: “What excites me most about this partnership is the ability to enable members of the community to self-refer. We are seeing a change in mindset of late where the community is demanding social prescriptions as alternatives to medication and the development of mental and physical health conditions. For the first time, we will have the analytics to assess the effectiveness of each referral we receive and generate across the HLC Alliance”.

Denise McConnell-Dillion, Elemental Software’s Training & Implementation Manager added: “It's fantastic to work in partnership with the vibrant and innovative staff at the BBHF. They are at the forefront of engaging with the local community to improve health outcomes and they understand the benefits of having Elemental Software’s platform to enhance their processes”.

The Healthy Living Centre Alliance project goes live in June 2017. It is one of a number projects powered by Elemental Software being implemented by Housing Associations, Local Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups across the UK and Ireland.
